Amentum is seeking a skilled Aircraft Mechanic I (Sheetmetal/Structural Specialty) to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Perform 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, examine reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listen to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Inspect jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks, test engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and jet calibration (Jetcal) tester, to locate source of malfunction.
  • Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft, enter in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verify the work was performed satisfactorily.
Requirements:
  • Three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS).
  • All experience must be within the six most recent years.
  • A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required.
  • All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox. Tools must be shadowed and etched with PID
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
Physical/Preferred Requirements:
  • Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruised from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts in shop area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds.
