The role is within the Business Area Energy Systems and comprises the delivery of due diligence and owners’ engineering services of wind and solar projects to customers in Korea and other countries in APAC.

The candidate will join the Renewables Advisory team and will be located in our Seol or Busan office, Korea. The Renewables Advisory team consists of approximately 30 staff located in Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Korea. In addition to these countries, our Asia Pacific energy and renewables advisory consulting practice has offices in Australia, China and India.

The main activities of the role of Civil Engineer are:

Perform Project Engineering tasks including Due Diligence reviews, Lenders Technical Advisory, Independent Engineer, Owners Engineer and related scopes of work, including equipment inspections, performance tests and contract reviews. Review, analysis, site inspection, reporting and client liaison in the areas of feasibility assessment, design, development, construction, operation, maintenance, due diligence. Work on multiple projects, managing own time to meet deadlines. Plan, project manage, execute and report on all aspects of Owners Engineering delivery and related scopes of work. Technical report writing. Assist in the preparation of technical papers or presentations. Business development support in initiating and developing leads for offshore wind proposals and projects. Feasibility and front-end engineering addressing: Support structures (WTG and OHVS). Construction scheduling analyses. Offshore installation (WTG, structures, cable). Engineering support pre-construction and through design, fabrication and construction for customers / main contractors: Offshore Substructure Concept Design. Preparation of Design Basis and Specifications. Equipment review and specification. Design/Drawing review. Construction monitoring. Due diligence for investors and lenders. Education:

Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline. A relevant masters and/or post-doctoral degree will be looked upon favourably.

Knowledge, skills and experience required for the position are:

Passionate about renewables, energy storage, and civil. Have an in-depth understanding of the drivers, technological challenges and solutions in the power system industry. Strong technical and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills in both Korean and English. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers. Ability to work effectively and professionally with diverse people – customers and co-workers. Good organisation and time management skills, ability to cope with a wide variety of tasks. Understanding and following safety requirements for accessing and working on wind farm, solar plant constructions sites or high voltage installations domestically and internationally. Receive and respond to requests from Korean and international customers for DNV support in the Korea wind business. Be supportive in initiating and developing leads for offshore wind proposals and projects, through visits to key existing customers and new contacts. Take part in project team performing engineering analyses, due diligence reviews and owner’s engineering tasks for offshore wind projects. Coordinate localization as required to facilitate non-Korean teams in the Asia Pacific Region (this may involve performing some translation). Manage local 3rd party engineering sub-consultants, as required, to augment regional technical teams. Work closely with business development staff and technical teams responsible for our other activities in Renewables Advisory in the region to ensure successful business development.

Experience of the following would be an advantage:

3-5 years of experience in a similar position within the Energy Industry (Wind or Solar). Working knowledge of utility transmission and distribution system control and protection practices. Demonstrated project management skills, including budget control, customer care, management of sub- contractors and progress against project milestones. Experience of developing proposals for work, including budgets, appropriate contractual terms, and undertaking negotiations on scope and price with customers. Working knowledge of the renewable energy industry and project developers; construction knowledge is a plus. Experience with using MS Office.

Physical Abilities:

Normal office environment, regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching. Some domestic and international travel to other company office locations, site locations, client offices and conferences. Occasional work outdoors including site visits, traveling by car and walking on uneven terrain.
