HauptaufgabenAs a certified and facility rated senior air traffic control specialist, performs duties as control tower operator, ground controlled radar approach controller, and instructor/trainer for assigned military and civilian air traffic controllers during their assigned facility shift. 1. Limited Radar Approach Control functions: Controls all Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) traffic entering, departing, transitioning through, or operating within a specific area. Execution of IFR control functions requires knowledge of instrument approaches, standard instrument departures, instrument holding and separation procedures, and Radar equipment capabilities and functions. Computes and compares relative aircraft positions based on Radar display, pilots position reports, known aircraft speed, headings, and wind conditions, and considers changing traffic conditions. Assures that air traffic control related elements of the facility's computer system functions in a manner acceptable for the safe and expeditious, flow of air traffic. Performs the entire range of activities including systems analysis, program improvement, documentation, and testing of air traffic control activities at the Radar Control facility (Ground Control Approach: GCA). 2. Control Tower: Controls all aircraft within airfield area or responsibility to include aircraft performing ground operations, by maintaining a constant vigil over the area of responsibility. Provides aircraft approaching the airfield with necessary information for landing maneuvers, such as surface wind, altimeter setting, active runway and current weather conditions, and directs inbound aircraft into proper traffic pattern. 3. Ground Controlled Radar Approach Control: Air Surveillance Radar (ASR): Interprets readings obtained from GCA equipment and furnishes precise instructions to pilots concerning headings, ascent, descent, turn procedures, and flight speeds. Renders navigational assistance by vectoring aircraft along predetermined routes to specific fixes. Directs pilots of arriving aircraft by means of appropriate maneuvers to align aircraft to runway centerline, and maintain appropriate altitudes; Precision Approach Radar (PAR): After aircraft is vectored to final Precision Approach Radar (PAR) course and has reached the initial final approach position, is able to change radar equipment from "surveillance" to "precision", ensures alignment is correct and provides pilots of inbound aircraft with precise and accurate elevation and azimuth, in case of emergencies, radar malfunctions, and other unforeseen incidents, is able to provide alternate instructions and necessary assistance. 4. Miscellaneous Functions: Conducts checks on a scheduled and unscheduled basis of air traffic control and air traffic control related equipment. These checks include, but are not limited to: airport lighting, radio equipment, radar equipment, recorder equipment and electronic weather transmission equipment, and to notify appropriate personnel in event that equipment status has changed. Maintains daily facility and position logs and records of equipment performance. Coordinates radio searches for overdue and lost aircraft, and coordinates for medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) flights when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
