Job Description
The Role
The main responsibility of the Senior Financial Accountant is to support USGAAP Financial Reporting and Operations for Korea business. This includes supporting the USGAAP reporting, responsible for the AP function, Treasury and investment functions including FX management and Finance Day to day operations for the Korea branch, ensuring deliverables to stakeholders are timely, accurate and complete and the works are performed in accordance with company policies as well as Korea laws and regulations.
Duties
1. Responsible for the Korea Branch's USGAAP ledger
- Responsible for timely and accurate completion of closing works and deliverables.
- Conduct all necessary reconciliations between the USGAAP ledger and supporting data to ensure that the GL is fairly stated.
- Responsible for responses to ad-hoc requests from both internal and external parties.
- Liaise and coordinate with internal departments (e.g. Corporate Actuarial and Operations team) on closing matters
- Provide support to the team in any other closing related Korea matters.
2. Responsible for the AP functions, Transaction between Affiliates and other related matters relating to the Korea branch operation
- Preparing transactions (receipt/payment) to external and internal party by ensuring all payments made are in accordance with company policies
- Transaction between Affiliates related matters to internal and external parties and support intercompany related local regulatory reports (Including tax report)
- Liaise with the banks updates of banking records and review bank & AP reconciliation, inter-company balances and others necessary reconciliations.
3. Responsible for the treasury, FX management and investment functions of the Korea Branch including but not limited to the following:
- Assist in the cashflow/capital projection to ensure that there are sufficient cash for solvency and operational needs
- In charge of investment transactions and communication regarding the investment matters with internal and external parties
- FX exposure management according to Korea laws and regulations and in charge of Bank of Korea regulatory reporting
- Ensure compliance with the internal policies relating to the treasury & investment function (Investment Guideline, Credit Risk, Liquidity and ALM policies).
5. Support and assist in Finance related projects including but not limited to the following:
- Financial system development (Unify/Cash Flow/ Concur etc.);
- PeopleSoft (Finance GL ledger)
- Any other Finance system related projects, initiatives, etc
6. Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, internal and group policies as are relevant to the role
- Robustly review current finance processes, identify and implement initiatives for continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Possess a Degree in Accountancy or equivalent
- At least 3-5 years' experience in financial operations and reporting of life insurance / reinsurance companies
- Experience in USGAAP reporting is preferred but not mandatory
- Proven understanding of standard accounting (GAAP&IFRS) in the insurance area is preferred
- Very strong sense of internal controls and procedures
- Proficient in English and able to communicate effectively with people from different countries and cultures
- Work well in a team environment
- Organised, deadline focused, meticulous with an eye for detail and able to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to manage ad-hoc, non-standard and often unstructured requests, at short notice
- Motivated to take ownership of work and to seek further responsibilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office) and account software e.g. Oracle PeopleSoft
