Overview of the Green Climate Fund
The Green Climate Fund is a leading international organization that supports developing countries in their efforts to address climate change. Our mission is to promote sustainable development and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by providing financing and technical assistance to countries.
About the RoleWe are seeking a Senior Counsel to join our Office of the General Counsel (OGC) team. As a Senior Counsel, you will provide legal advice and support to the GCF Board, Executive Director, and operations and administrative departments. Your expertise will be essential in shaping the Fund's strategic direction and ensuring compliance with its legal framework.

Responsibilities- Provide legal advice and support to the GCF Board, Executive Director, and operations and administrative departments;
- Draft, review, and negotiate financing agreements;
- Conduct legal due diligence in connection with funding proposals;
- Support the Associate General Counsel - Public Sector in coordinating the delivery of legal support for public sector programming;
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An advanced university degree in law (Master's degree or equivalent);
- Qualification to practice law in at least one jurisdiction;
- At least 11 years of relevant work experience practicing law in cross-border transactions involving innovative financing;
- Experience in the legal structuring of financial and commercial transactions;
- Excellent legal drafting skills and ability to creatively resolve complex issues;
- Good understanding of different financial instruments and their features;
- Knowledge and experience of engaging with countries, institutional investors, and financial institutions;
- Emotional intelligence and values-driven work ethic;
