At the Green Climate Fund, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced legal professional to join our Office of the General Counsel as a Senior Counsel - Public Sector.

We are dedicated to mobilizing financial resources to support climate action and promoting sustainable development.
Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Senior Counsel who will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice and support to the Executive Director, Board, and other stakeholders on matters related to public sector programming. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cross-border transactions, debt and equity financing, and commercial agreements.
Main Responsibilities- Provide legal advice and support on the drafting, reviewing, and negotiating of financing agreements and contracts;
- Conduct legal due diligence in connection with funding proposals and prepare legal advice on the interpretation of policies and contracts;
- Mentor junior colleagues and ensure the quality of work provided by the Office of the General Counsel;
- Support the Associate General Counsel - Public Sector in coordinating the delivery of legal services for public sector programming and identifying efficiency gains throughout the organization;
- Stay up-to-date with developments in the legal field, especially in relation to multilateral finance, and apply creative solutions to complex issues that arise in transactions.
- Advanced university degree in law (Master's degree or equivalent) from a recognized institution;
- Qualification to practice law in at least one jurisdiction;
- At least 11 years of relevant work experience practicing law in cross-border transactions involving innovative financing, including debt and equity transactions with a well-recognized law firm, or working in-house in the private sector, an international financial institution, and/or a development institution;
- Excellent legal drafting skills, particularly in drafting financing and commercial agreements;
- Experience advising senior members of staff and working with institutional investors and financial institutions;
- Good understanding and experience of sovereign financing, grants, and guarantees;
- Knowledge and experience of engaging with developing countries and emotional intelligence and values-driven work ethic.
